Intermediate education is offered by the Board of Intermediate, AP as a 2-year program and also by the NIOS, National Institute of Open Schooling as a 1-year program.
Intermediate is an induction stage for students opting university education, employment and other career opportunities, Unlike the SSC, Intermediate offers many optionals under the nonintegrated system of education.
Students should be careful and prudent while exercising their choice for optionals keeping in view their interest, aptitude and goals. But this cautious approach is rarely adopted by them. Immediately after passing the SSC a student is in upbeat mood and takes an admission in intermediate course choosing optionals under some kind of pressure and influence from parents, friends and relatives ignoring his own interest and aptitude. It is usually too late by the time he realizes that the optionals chosen by him do not match his aptitude, and the damage would have already been done in the form of dismal results or failure. And if a student prefers to change his optionals after realization of his mistake he has to study for a period two years again. For this category of Students INTER IN ONE YEAR, offered by NIOS has come as a boon.
Those students who have passed SSC but not joined Intermediate, failed in Intermediate, discontinued Intermediate, feel like changing their optional in Intermediate can join INTER IN ONE YEAR Intermediate can be completed in one year. Only 5 subjects and papers are to be taken.

Intermediate in One Year
About NIOS
NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is an autonomous organization of the Department of Education, Ministry of H R D Govt of India setup in the year 1989 located at New Delhi. It is the largest open schooling system in India. It is a teaching institution as well as examining and certifying authority by itself. It conducts its own examinations and awards certificate. It is a board at National level like CBSE & ICSE.
About the Course
The Intermediate course offered by NIOS is known as Senior Secondary Course, which is of One-year duration. This course is for those who passed SSC but have not joined Intermediate, failed in Intermediate, discontinued Intermediate, feel like changing their optionals in Intermediate and would like to continue their education towards a Senior Secondary certification equivalent to XII standard or Intermediate.
The following subjects are offered in Intermediate one year
Hindi, English, Urdu, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Commerce, Accounts, Home Science, Typewriting, Word processing, stenography, Secretarial Practice, Psychology, Computer Science. A student has to select any 5 subjects (including a language which is compulsory) from the above depending upon his choice.
Eligibility
SSC Passed with 1 year gap or Inter Failed or Inter discontinued.
Examinations
Examinations will be conducted twice in a year i e June / December. Examinations will be conducted in Hyderabad/Secunderabad. Each subject will carry 100 marks question paper. A minimum of 33 marks is required in each paper to pass.
Validity of certificate
The certificate awarded by NIOS is valid and accepted by all the recognized Universities in India and all over the world. It is valid for any higher education or employment.
